Welcome to Soul Foodie

Hi, friend!

If you like reimagined classic dishes, global cuisine, and don't want to sacrifice on taste, you're going to love it here!

I'm a writer, a cook (but in my heart-of-hearts, a chef), a recipe developer, and the creative soul behind Soul Foodie. Like many of you who are visiting the site, I have a passion for cooking. I love to experiment with different ingredients, flavors, herbs & spices, and I draw lots of inspiration from other cultures. What I especially love about cooking is that I can do this with a plant-based focus and produce amazing dishes.

I built this space because I believe that nourishing yourself should feel like a gift. Whether you're fully plant-based, cutting back on meat, cooking for someone with specific health needs, or simply looking for meals that taste incredible and won't stretch the budget, there's something for you here.

Welcome to my table!

I'm CeCe,
and I'm so glad you're here.

I'm a Southern California soul, but these days, I'm enjoying a bit of a digital nomad lifestyle, which has been rejuvenating on so many levels. I'm a super fan of lazy days at the beach, street food truck meet-ups, travel adventures - for food and for culture, and all things Farmer's Market related. Let's just say, I've racked up a few FM miles over the past few years. I should have a statue by now... or at least a trophy! 😂

Soul food with a modern twist is really the heartbeat of this space. Some recipes here are completely original, others lean on a great store-bought shortcut that makes your life easier without sacrificing flavor - because real cooking has always been a bit of both. I want these recipes to feel approachable and fun, but also, transformative.

Lastly, these recipes are flexible enough to adapt, affordable enough to repeat, and delicious enough that nobody at your table ever has to know how easy it was to make them. But, by all means, tell all your friends about your love of Soul Foodie, because we love a good shout-out! 😉

Roots & Recipes

The recipes you'll find on Soul Foodie reflect a simple belief - you shouldn't have to choose between eating well and eating food that actually tastes amazing. I grew up understanding that food was never "just food". It carries memory, healing, tradition, purpose, and a kind of love that shows up without explanation. I saw it in the way my mom and grandma cooked during get-togethers, in the way the elder men in my family & community would have such passionate exchanges about their spice rubs blends, and even in the way my closest friends would create meals and treats for loved ones. That foundation never left me. It just evolved.

Every recipe on Soul Foodie lives somewhere between honoring what came before and finding a fresh way to experience it. These culinary creations will surprise, satisfy, nourish, and make you want to share them with those nearest and dearest to you.

Elevated soul food with a modern twist.
Classic flavors and techniques reimagined for the contemporary kitchen - familiar enough to feel like home, creative enough to keep things exciting.

Recipes from diverse cultures, filtered through a soul food lens.
From Caribbean to West African to Southern American, I love taking dishes from across the diaspora and giving them that signature depth and warmth that soul food does best.

Simple recipes that taste extraordinary.
Most of what you'll find here uses everyday ingredients and straightforward techniques. No gourmet grocery runs required.

Solo-friendly and crowd-ready options.
Whether you're cooking for one on a quiet evening or feeding a full table, there's something here scaled for your moment.

Soul Notes on every recipe.
A little context, a little culture, a little love behind the dish - because knowing the story makes the food taste even better.

Substitution recommendations and meal prep ideas built in.
I want these recipes to work for your life, your budget, and whatever's already in your kitchen.

A mix of original recipes and smart store-bought shortcuts.
Because resourcefulness has always been part of the tradition, and there's no shame in a great shortcut that gets dinner on the table.
